When starting up Demon Aid I decided to go back to hand-inking my comic pages. It had been a while since I had done so, over a year at least. I was digitally inking all of my pages for both Red String and Riding Hood. It was just taking so very long to do it and was wearing me out. I admit that I was very satisfied with the results of the digital work, but it was starting to make me dread having to ink a comic page. I could take all day inking a single page. And when you have only three to four hours to work each night because of a baby (and then a second baby two years later) it's just not productive. You don't feel like you're getting anywhere.
Then I discovered a new tool that made me fall in love with traditional media again. It was the Zebra Brush Pen by Jet Pens. I was in love! Anyone who's used disposable brush pens knows that the pen tips usually fray and become useless after a short amount of use. These pens tips don't fray like others which is just amazing. And the lines! Oh, the lines! Such variation! And the deep dark color... they give me an overwhelming satisfaction like the taste of a delicious decadent chocolate. So, yes, I am happy to say that inking has become my favorite part of working on a comic page these days.
Gina will be appearing at the Animate! Miami convention in Miami, FL this weekend, January 17-19. Gina took a year off for the pregnancy of her second baby so this is her first one back to the convention scene. She will have lots of her books, prints, buttons, and other merchandise with her. Hope to see you there!
Thank you everyone for your support and getting us to our funding goal for Erstwhile Volume 2! Our appreciation and excitement knows no bounds! Personally, I am doing a happy dance right now! We can't wait to print this book!
For those of you who are not familiar with my other work, Erstwhile is an anthology series adapting the rarer Grimm's Fairy Tales into comic form. I collaborate with two other awesome female comic artists and we each take turns illustrating a story.
I just did an interview this past Sunday with TGT Media's Kurt Sasso! It's been five years since I was last on the show, far too long! We get talking about the Erstwhile kickstarter campaign, the end of Red String, Demon Aid, Filthy Figments, and even just comic creation in general.
We are very excited to announce the arrival of Demon Aid Advance. What is this strange new thing, you ask? Well, let me tell you all about it. Demon Aid Advance is a spiffy new program we are implimenting where you can acquire multiple pages of the story before they go live on the website!
Why do this, you inquire? There are many reasons for it. One being that since this is a long form comic it's nice to be able to read clumps of pages from time to time. It's just nice to read more story at once.
PLUS you get the warm fuzzy feeling of supporting an artist/comic you enjoy. Of course, you already help every time you visit the website directly and don't have on ad blockers. Most webcomic artists are dependent on their ads since they give away their main product. However, this will give you a more direct way to offer your support and you get something cool in the process!
